6 Important Lessons Dads Should Teach Their Kids
Mar 29th
There are many lessons a dad can teach his children. Finances hold a special place in my heart though. I don’t want my child growing up and making the dumb debt mistakes I have made. While that list could go on forever, here are some main points I would love to teach my kids someday.
1. “The more the merrier” does not apply to toys.
Many people believe that if they had the type of wealth that is seen on television, they would be happy. Yes, that small percentage of stars we see with millions of dollars seem happy. We are fed the idea that the amount of material possessions you have defines you. False. If that were true, I don’t think we would hear about millionaires going bankrupt, including retired sports stars and movie actors. What money can’t buy is how we define our lives. The moments no one can take away from you. The time spent with your family. The lessons you learn from your parents. Money should never be the number one object in your life.
2. You can make it in life, regardless of how much money you make.
Like I said above, money does not define us. The general population believe they need $70,000-$80,000 a year salary just to survive. Not true. You can easily make $35,000-$40,000 a year and still be just fine. It’s called financial freedom and anyone can obtain it. Be responsible and committed and your money will never go to waste.
3. Slow down — life is a marathon, not a sprint.
All parents dread the day their kids leave the family nest. You, still being young, are going to want everything at once. Your paycheck will say otherwise. You will face these tough choices in life, so it’s going to be very important that you understand the difference between wants (like that new game console or big screen tv) and needs (like rent and food to eat). Just work hard and be diligent. You will see your check growing each year.
4. Don’t do things out of order.
Decisions we make in life can have huge consequences . There are 4 major things you will do in your life:
1. Go to college and get an education.
2. Establish your career.
3. Get married.
4. Have kids.
Follow these in order and your life will seem simple and you will struggle less. Do these out of order and your might find yourself in some very difficult situations. I can vouch from personal experience on this one. Of course, things happen for a reason, and if they do happen out of order then take it and go with it. But, stay on the path. Your finances and body will take a much lesser punch.
5. Hard work brings luck.
Sometimes we attribute other people’s good fortune to luck. I am sure that is true in some cases, but the real way to achieve good fortune is to make your own luck. Combine hard work with passion and you can find a job you really love in life. One that excites you to turn off that alarm clock in the morning and support you (or your family). Life does not give handouts and you will learn this very quickly.
6. Take advantage of youth while you can, you won’t be young forever.
Thanks to a little concept called compound interest, you can start your path to becoming a millionaire right now.
Think about it: let’s say you earned $3000 working a summer job. If you invested that money in an account that managed to earn 8% every year it would grow to $140,704 after 50 years. That’s without adding any money to it. Imagine if you added on and started adding significant funds to that account? You will be much better off if you start now.
Follow these steps and your life can be very prosperous and just the way you want it. Hard work now will lead to play time later. Enjoy life, work hard, and make smart decisions.

Precisely how to Manage a Young child At Bed time
Dec 20th
Very first and foremost is being consistent about bed time, in addition to wake-up time. Toddlers are more receptive when on a schedule and will be more tolerant of bedtime if its at a consistent time. Parents ought to set the child bedtime regimen as early as possible to avoid problems with child bed time. Wake-up time is more up to your son or daughter, but attempt to make this consistent too.
The actual bed time routine should include exactly the same activities each evening as well. This can include parents reading the youngster story books, a small snack, watching videos, or even some silent playing. Irrespective, it should be a peaceful and peaceful period. Consistency is essential, so whatever you choose, allow it to be exactly the same exercise every night so that your kids get used to the activities that prelude going to sleep.
One thing certainly to avoid is being with your toddler after the lighting is out and its time to fall asleep. If you get your child accustomed to you being together while falling asleep, it will likely be difficult to break the habit. This may actually encourage your child to remain conscious longer, because they possess a organic desire to be with their parents. There are ways to work your way from this scenario.
One of the ways would be to let your son or daughter realize that you are leaving but just for a few minutes, and that you will check up on them in a few minutes. Tell them you’ll be back within five minutes to check on them, and stay true to your word. Often when you come back, your son or daughter will be sleeping. If it takes two or three return trips to check on your son or daughter, this really is definitely much better than sitting with them constantly until they fall asleep.
In the evening, besides reading through books you may also try peaceful conversation as well. Talking about the actions of the day, or plans for the next day may calm your child, so long as they don’t get too excited. Keep your conversation tone soft and help to make your son or daughter the primary character in the story from the night. This likewise helps them really feel comfortable before being tucked in and the lamps go off.
As toddlers develop, they will slowly be comfortable with bed time and will be much less dependent on mother and father to fall asleep. Only in rare situations do chronic sleeping problems continue, and in these situations, a pediatrician ought to be consulted to see if something medical is actually involved.
Obtaining small children to sleep takes adjustment for many parents, so if you are having difficulties with this, take comfort that you’re not alone. This is really a transition that will end and your son or daughter will learn to go to sleep without issue.
Small changes, big impact: clean and green energy is the future
Nov 13th
Anyone who’s been paying attention to world affairs in recent years may have noticed that environmental issues have featured fairly highly on many forums, from news channels and movies, to political speeches and demonstrations.
Indeed, with a decade of the 21st century already gone, we’re starting to really see the renewable energy revolution begin to kick-in, with more and more wind-farms being developed along the UK coast, and even cars that run on biofuels becoming more common.
The UK Government has been increasing its low-carbon technology spend in recent years too, with a number of initiatives designed to lead the way for Britain to enter a new environmentally friendly era.
It may sound like wholesale changes are required in the way we live our lives, but that needn’t be the case.
And small steps such as insulating your home properly, having shorter showers and reducing your thermostat by a few degrees can have a massive effect if everyone is on board.
Offsetting has also become a popular phrase in environmental circles in recent years, and has been popularised by many industries seeking to do their bit for the environment. For example, if a business travels a lot via air travel, they may compensate for the emissions caused through this by paying money towards planting new trees, or investing in green energy initiatives.
Similarly, if you’ve been using the same energy provider for years, it’s maybe worth your while looking into what the company is actively doing to help the environment.
Everybody needs electricity and gas, and for all intents and purposes the energy that powers people’s home is the same irrespective of who provided it – but there are ethical suppliers out there with one eye on the Earth’s wellbeing.
This could be as simple as matching every unit of electricity used from traditional sources with that generated by renewable sources. So in effect, the use of renewable energy is being promoted through doing nothing more than what you normally do at home, whether that’s boiling the kettle, watching television or having a shower. All you need to do is ensure you’re on the right tariff with the right company.
It’s everyone’s responsibility to look after the future of Mother Earth. And it doesn’t involve wholesale lifestyle changes – a little care, thought and research is all that’s really needed – and the cumulative effect of everyone getting involved can have a massive impact across the globe.
Get the best deal from your electricity supplier
Oct 26th
If you dread receiving your electricity bill through the letterbox, you have two major options available to reduce the amount you’re paying – you could change your usage habits to consume less electricity each month, or you could seek out a better deal elsewhere.
This doesn’t always have to mean abandoning your existing supplier though; as they may have tariffs that would benefit you more than the one you are currently operating on. Comparing their respective services online can be the most convenient way to see how the savings would soon add up after changing your tariff, especially as some suppliers offer exclusive discounts if you sign up online, rather than over the phone. These can include exclusive deals depending on your age or location, If your gas and electricity are currently supplied by two different companies, there could also be further benefits to consolidating these with a single supplier, under a dual fuel tariff.
If you do decide to switch provider, using price comparison websites can be an effective method of evaluating the various tariffs available – though it can also be worth investigating each supplier’s own website to see if there are additional deals available, as these may not be featured on comparison sites but could be ideally suited to your economic situation.
If you continue receiving steep bills even after switching provider, the problem may not lie with your electricity supplier at all – you could be on the best tariff available, but paying more if you’re using excessive electricity. Analysing your current usage habits is the first step to reducing your electricity consumption, whether the problem lies in you absent-mindedly leaving lights on when leaving a room or operating older, less energy-efficient appliances.
Replacing outdated equipment may require some initial expense, but the savings could soon add up on your electricity bills. Not all changes have to be drastic either, with energy efficient light bulbs being a cheap and easy way to shave off the pounds.
Many people don’t think about their electricity bill until it arrives, and could then risk their supply being disconnected if they are unable to get the money together to pay the bill. This means good financial planning is also essential, especially as some suppliers offer discounts and cashback incentives if you pay your bills on time by regular direct debit each year.
Organising your School Reunion
Oct 18th
If you’re part of the team organising your school reunion, you’re probably all too aware of how difficult it’s going to be to track people down – but don’t fear, it is possible! You just need to pool your resources and compile the results into what is hopefully a full list of your high school or university classmates. Okay, so that doesn’t sound like the easiest thing in the world, but with today’s technologies, it’s far simpler than you think.
Of course, one of the best ways of getting together the details of your past classmates is to tap into the social web created by your year when you were all at school with each other. The chances are that most people stayed in touch with at least some people from high school, which means there is always going to be a way to contact them. You’ll probably find that you can gather the majority of your classmates’ details simply by asking others.
But what about those who seem to have disappeared off the map? Your first port of call might be Facebook, which seems to be the social network of choice for everybody and their mother. Facebook is a fantastic tool for finding people and you should be able to find a few of your missing school mates on this excellent site; you might even be able to message them to get their details (and check it’s the right person, who knows what all these years will do to a person’s looks?).
If Facebook proves to be less than successful you may start to feel like there isn’t much hope. What other avenues can you possibly explore that will open up the details of those last few classmates you simply can’t track down? Well, even if they’ve eschewed Facebook and somehow avoided being in the contacts lists of your other high school buddies, there’s one other place you can check – the electoral roll. The electoral roll is a database containing all UK citizens who are eligible to vote, and it could help you fill in the gaps. By doing an electoral roll search you could find those missing links quickly and easily – and hopefully with enough time to tell them about the reunion!
It’ll be great seeing all your school buddies again and even better if you manage to get everybody to attend – so get searching and start collecting names to ensure the most successful reunion ever.
Simple and Effective Home Security Measures
Sep 30th
Security is one of the basic needs in our homes especially in the wake of rising cases of insecurity in the society. With the heavy investments that many people have made in their homes, nobody wants to take a risk as far as the security of their homes and family is concerned. It is thus of great importance to ensure that your home is well secured and that all systems are in place so that should there be a security lapse, you are promptly alerted and well prepared.
A research that was recently conducted indicates that most of the burglaries that take place especially in residential places are not planned but instead take place as opportunity crimes. This simply means that burglars find an easy opportunity and go for it as most of the residential places do not have adequate security provisions or none at all for their homes. Usually, the burglars will creep into a residential area and follow what appears to them to be an easy path. If upon approaching a specific home the burglars realise that there are powerful security systems in place, they tend to retreat and go for another easier target.
The number one step in ensuring that the general security of your home is intact is by thoroughly scrutinizing the measures of security that you have already put in place and see if they are adequate. If you find that they are not adequate, then you may consider applying for home and contents insurance. This is an insurance cover that offers to protect your home and all the contents and investments that you have in your home. This includes all the valuables that you may have plus all your assets. This ensures that should there be a security lapse and burglary takes place, you will be compensated and thus you will not be at a loss.
Building contents insurance will also be important in ensuring the security of your home is not compromised. This cover offers protection to all your investments in your home and it also includes the building that houses your home. This cover does not only protect your valuables in time of theft alone but also incase of loss or damage.
When you decide to take a cover for the security purpose of your home, it is important to make house insurance comparison. There are various insurance companies that offer insurance covers against burglary and other forms of cover to protect your home. However, each cover differs with each company. Making comparisons will thus help you weigh the various options and give you an opportunity to settle for the best. Indeed, security for our homes is of paramount importance and thus measures must be taken to ensure that our homes are well protected.
